SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 2 (KNO): As the budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly began on Monday, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather cautioned members against indiscipline, stating that disruptions would not be tolerated in the House.
Speaking in the Assembly, the Speaker said differences are an integral part of democracy but must be expressed in a dignified and respectful manner. “Earlier, people learned about Assembly proceedings the next day through newspapers. Today, proceedings are watched live in homes. We must not humiliate or disrespect one another,” he said.
He reminded members that people expect the Assembly to provide solutions to their problems, not scenes of disorder. “Constituents are watching how their issues are being raised. Creating disturbances does not address their concerns,” the Speaker said.
Assuring members of adequate opportunity, Rather said sufficient time would be provided to raise issues during the session. He also informed the House that the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has decided that the first part of the budget session will have two sittings.
Reiterating his stand, the Speaker said maintaining discipline in the House was his foremost responsibility and that indiscipline would not be allowed under any circumstances. (KNO)
