SRINAGAR, MAR 3: The government on Tuesday announced that schools and colleges in eight districts of Kashmir will reopen tomorrow, while the decision regarding educational institutions in Srinagar and Budgam will depend on the prevailing restrictions.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo told news agency Kashmir News Trust (KNT) that out of the Valley’s ten districts, academic institutions in eight districts will resume normal functioning from Wednesday.
She clarified that the reopening of schools and colleges in Srinagar and Budgam is directly linked to the ground situation and any restrictions imposed by authorities.
“If restrictions continue tomorrow, schools in Srinagar and Budgam will not reopen. If there are no restrictions, the institutions will function as usual,” the minister said.
The Valley has witnessed precautionary measures in recent days following protests over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. With the situation gradually stabilising in most districts, authorities have decided to restore academic activities in the remaining areas.
Officials said further updates regarding Srinagar and Budgam will be communicated after a review of the law-and-order situation—(KNT).
