SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 23 (KNO): Schools in the Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu on Monday reopened for students of Classes 9 to 12 after a winter break of over 70 days, marking the resumption of academic activities across the region.
According to Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the School Education Department (SED) had ordered winter vacations for these classes from December 11, 2025, to February 22, 2026.
The department had announced the winter break in a phased manner for different classes. As per the schedule, vacations for pre-primary (Balvatika) classes will continue till February 28, while students of middle classes up to 8th standard will also remain on vacation until the same date.
The SED had directed the teaching faculty to remain available for academic activities during the vacation period and asked them to report back to schools on February 20 to make necessary arrangements for reopening.
Earlier, degree colleges in the Kashmir Valley had resumed academic work on February 16 after 52 days of winter vacation.
The Higher Education Department had announced winter vacations for colleges in the Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu from December 24, 2025, to February 14, 2026.
Authorities said the reopening of schools is expected to bring normalcy to the academic schedule, while preparations are underway to ensure smooth conduct of classes and upcoming examinations. (KNO)
