JAMMU, JANUARY 26 : Asserting that a “Naya Savera” (new dawn) has broken out in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday reiterated the government’s commitment to establish lasting peace and make the region prosperous.

Addressing the main Republic Day समारोह in Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor paid rich tributes to martyrs and victims of terrorism, natural calamities and other tragic incidents, according to Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Saluting the courage of the security forces, LG Sinha said Operation Sindoor sent a clear message that terrorism will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He praised the armed forces for eliminating Pakistani terrorists involved in the Pahalgam terror attack and paid homage to the victims of the attack, as well as those who lost their lives in the Nowgam blast.

The Lieutenant Governor also acknowledged the suffering caused by recent natural calamities and expressed gratitude to the Security Forces, SDRF and NDRF for their relentless rescue and relief operations.

Highlighting the development agenda, LG Sinha said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is committed to transforming Jammu and Kashmir and contributing to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’. He said the region is witnessing a new era of peace, progress and opportunity.

Tourism key economic driver

Speaking on tourism, the LG said it continues to play a pivotal role in J&K’s economy. He said that from January to November 2025, more than 1.61 crore tourists visited the Union Territory, though the figure was slightly lower than last year due to the impact of the Pahalgam terror attack and natural disasters. Despite the challenges, he said the government continues efforts to restore tourist confidence.

Praise for Kashmir Marathon

LG Sinha also lauded initiatives promoting national unity and public participation, noting that the Chief Minister’s participation in the Kashmir Marathon has given the event a new dimension. He said the large participation in the Tiranga Yatra reflects deep-rooted patriotism among the people.

Security, justice and connectivity

Reiterating that a “Naya Savera” has emerged in J&K, the Lieutenant Governor said strong measures are being taken to eliminate terrorism and provide comprehensive support to affected families. He announced that all pending terrorism-related killing cases will be re-examined to ensure justice.

On infrastructure, he said rail connectivity and express highways have significantly improved regional integration and mobility, while effective implementation of centrally sponsored schemes has brought visible transformation across sectors.

Push for clean energy

Urging citizens to adopt clean energy, the LG encouraged people to install solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar Bijli Yojana, calling it a step toward sustainability and energy self-reliance.

He said Jammu and Kashmir is steadily moving towards peace, progress and inclusive development through collective efforts of the government and the people.
