Kupwara, March 7 : Family members of a 23-year-old woman who died during surgery at a nursing home at Handwara here in this north Kashmir district staged a protest on Monday, alleging medical negligence by doctors and the administrators of the health facility.

The newly-wed woman, Shameema Begum wife of Nazir Ahmad Mir of Sopernaghama Qaziabad, was admitted in “North Kashmir Nursing Home” on Sunday afternoon and according to the family, her gallbladder was to be removed.

On Monday, as soon as the surgery was conducted, the condition of the woman deteriorated and in the meanwhile she was referred to District Hospital Handwara where doctors declared her brought dead, they said.

Meanwhile the family members of the woman staged a protest against North Kashmir Nursing Home Administration, alleging negligence which according to them led to the woman’s death. They demanded a probe into the incident and requested police authorities to bring to book the doctors and administrators involved in the death.

When contacted, Medical superintendent District Hospital Handwara Dr Nissar Ahmad told GNS that “details are being ascertained”. (GNS)
