Srinagar, Oct 29 : Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat on Thursday said that J&K Police is committed to continuously engaging youth through sports and other productive activities to keep them away from social evils like drugs and gambling.
Speaking at a function here, the DGP as per GNS said that as of today, 28 indoor and open-air gyms have been established across the Union Territory for youth.
He said before this event, J&K Police organized Kashmir Marathon and Jashn-e-Dal. “6,000 people participated in the marathon, which was the largest participation number in our activities so far. In Jashn-e-Dal, women and youth participated in 46 different categories,” he said.
Listing the upcoming events in the police calendar, the DGP said, “We organize the Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament in Srinagar. In addition, a Run for Unity will be held in Jammu. Additionally, a hockey and cricket tournament will be organized in the name of the Martyrs.”
The DGP extended heartfelt congratulations and thanks to J&K Police, its organizing committee and all associated partners. “Today’s program was successful because of your hard work,” he said, while also thanking media friends and colleagues for attending and adding charm to the program.
Highlighting the role of youth in peace building, the DGP said, “Under the guidance of our respected LG Sahib, the continuous chain of peace and harmony that is being formed and growing stronger, a very key link of this is our youth generation. The youth are continuously participating in productive activities, and this brings positivity to the entire society.”
“The younger generation has aspirations, and when you embrace the discipline that you learn from sports, it is obvious that you will succeed in fulfilling your aspirations,” he said, congratulating all winners and participants.
“Many heartfelt congratulations to all winners today, and especially to the participants — if there were not such large-scale participation at such a high level, this program could not have been what we wanted,” DGP added.
Stressing the importance of physical fitness, he said, “Cycling is not just a healthy lifestyle choice; it makes you strong, resilient physically as well as mentally, and instills discipline. Today, the biggest trouble in the entire world has become smartphone or cellphone addiction. Staying constantly on the screen, this addiction is something we should be able to leave behind.”
“A sedentary lifestyle, which ruins people’s health and causes diseases, has a massive cost that the entire nation, country and society have to face. If we all maintain a healthy lifestyle and participate in some sporting activity, then obviously, our entire country’s economic progress will see a significant increase,” he said.
“Our youth, our other society members, should keep doing sporting activities, move towards fitness, adopt a healthy lifestyle. You can imagine how much more positive contribution these things bring to society, community and the country. Youth, you are our asset, you are our future, and because of you, the progress here will be a hundred times more than what has already been achieved,” DGP Prabhat said.
He said J&K Police is committed to continuously engaging with younger generation through various programs to ensure that all evils in society whether it is drugs or gambling are eradicated.(GNS)
