Srinagar, Nov 28 : Three of a family, including a top-Islamic scholar, his son and daughter-in-law, and a teenage boy were killed in a tragic road mishap near Chenani area of Udhampur district this morning, officials said.

They told GNS that a Maruti Vehicle bearing registration number JK-19 1449, on way from Gool Sangaldan towards Udhampur, skidded off the road and rolled down a deep gorge near Prem Mandir Chenani, resulting in on spot death of two persons and injuries to two other occupants.

The injured persons were evacuated from the spot for treatment, however both of them succumbed on way to the hospital, they said.

The officials identified the deceased persons as Chief Cleric Jamia Masjid Sangaldan Abdul Hamid (32), his wife Hajira Begum, his father Mohammad Jamal Uddin (65) who happens to be a top Islamic Scholar, and an another youth Aadil Ahmad son of Gulzar Ahmad Malik (16).

Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Deputy commissioner Ramban wrote: “Just in – Accident at Sarmoli. Reportedly, Mufti Abdul Hamid Saheb, Imam, Jamia Masjid Sangladan and his father, Mufti Jamal Din Saheb died on spot”.

In a subsequent tweet, the DC wrote: “All four passengers traveling in an Alto vehicle which met with an accident near Samroli, Udhampur have died. The family belonged to Sangaldan, Gool. More updates will follow.”

Additional SSP Udhampur Anwar-ul-Haq has in the meantime also confirmed to GNS about the accident and death of four persons thereof. (GNS)
