Roads or Death traps: 50 killed, 654 injured in 403 road accidents in Rajouri, Poonch this year so far

Rajouri/Poonch, Sep 26 : At least 50 people have lost their lives while 654 have sustained injuries in 403 road accidents in twin districts of Jammu region in the first eight months of 2022.

Officials divulging the details with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that 403 road accidents have taken place in Rajouri and Poonch since January 01- August 31, 2022.

263 road accidents have taken place in Rajouri district from 1st of January to 31st of August this year, officials said, adding that 23 people have lost their lives in these accidents.

They said that 140 road accidents have taken place in Poonch in the first eight months, claiming 27 lives including 11 deaths in the recent bus accident on Saujiyan-Mandi road in the district.

Officials said that 440 people have received injuries in Poonch road accidents while in Rajouri a total of 214 people have sustained injuries in the last eight months.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Rajouri, Shammi Sharma told KNO that most of the accidents take place due to human negligence.

“We are taking the best possible steps to curb the number of accidents and also awareness is being created to achieve the target of saving precious lives,” ARTO Rajouri said.

“We have to stop use of mobile phones while driving and also put an end to rash driving, over-taking and other norm violations,” ARTO further said—(KNO)
