Srinagar, July 25 : Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta on Monday said that merit is the sole criterion for selection in the government services and no wrongdoing would be tolerated.

“You should be rest assured that merit will be the only basis for selection. We won’t accept even one wrongdoing in the selection process,” the top civil officer said at the launch of the Digital J&K, according to GNS correspondent.

“Even minutest of the wrongdoings will not be accepted. The jobs won’t be available in market but recruitments will only be based on merit. If any wrongdoing is found, case will go to CBI and those responsible will be given exemplary punishment which they (culprits) will remember for ages,” he said.

The Chief Secretary said there was a wrong perception that there were no jobs in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Last time people said that there are no jobs in Jammu and Kashmir. I thought why there is this perception when government has given highest number of civilian jobs in its history of J&K last year. Only answer I found was that jobs are not available the market (for sale),” he said.

The Digital J&K, an awareness programme on services that can be availed online in the Jammu and Kashmir, was launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha here at SKICC.

The Chief Secretary said that various digital initiatives and services that will be promoted intensively during the Digital Jammu & Kashmir week would take the goal of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance” to every nook and corner of the UT.
