MET predicts widespread rain, snow on Feb 22, 23

Srinagar, Feb 21 : A local meteorological department on Monday predicted widespread light to moderate rain or snowfall, mainly over higher reaches across Jammu and Kashmir during February 22nd and 23rd, though there is no forecast of any major rain for next 10 days.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that a fresh active WD is likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from 22nd February. Under the influence of this system, widespread rain/snow is most likely to occur during 22nd (evening) to 23rd (late afternoon) February.

He said that the system will most likely concentrate over Jammu division, Pir Panjal range and south Kashmir.

“Moderate rain in plains with snow over higher reaches (heavy rain/snow at isolated places) of Jammu Division (Doda & Kishtwar) is expected during the above period, ” the official said.

The official further said that there will be a light rain over plains and moderate snow over middle and higher reaches of north western and central parts of Kashmir Division. “Moderate rain over plains of south Kashmir with moderate snow over higher reaches is expected during the above period,” he added.

It also may temporarily disrupt Surface Transportation on 22-23rd, while landslides in vulnerable spots of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other major hilly roads.

The official further said that after this, there is no forecast of any major rain for the next 10 days—(KNO)
