JAMMU, FEBRUARY 1: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Saturday hailed the Union Budget 2026–27, describing it as a pragmatic and forward-looking financial blueprint that prioritises economic acceleration, future-ready infrastructure and sustained growth, while balancing social welfare.
He said the Budget charts a clear path towards achieving the $5 trillion economy milestone within the next few years and lays the foundation for comprehensive sectoral expansion.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Lieutenant Governor welcomed the focus on the development of ecologically sustainable mountain trails in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the initiative would generate new employment opportunities and give fresh impetus to the tourism sector.
“The Budget for 2026–27 emphasises accelerating economic expansion, strengthening infrastructure and advancing manufacturing capabilities across seven strategic sectors, while maintaining a firm commitment to welfare,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He noted that the Budget would have a transformative impact on emerging industries, including renewed momentum for the semiconductor sector through India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0, and a significant push towards reducing dependence on imports of rare earth elements through the creation of specialised zones.
The Lieutenant Governor observed that with artificial intelligence, job creation and service-sector enhancement taking centre stage, India’s competitive edge will strengthen across every economic domain, positioning the country for greater global prominence.
“Budget 2026–27 charts the path to a $5 trillion economy within a few years and reflects our ambition to achieve developed economy status in less than two decades. The Budget promises unprecedented empowerment for youth, women and farmers,” he said.
He added that with manufacturing, infrastructure, MSMEs, healthcare, urban development, electronics and supply networks forming the core of the future strategy, the country will be able to expand domestic production and generate substantial employment, thereby sustaining economic momentum.
