Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that despite continuous efforts over the past three days, the body of the youth has not yet been located.

The searches are being led by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Quick Response Team (QRT) Jhelum unit while the River Police and other allied teams are assisting it.

The joint teams, according to the officials, conducted an extensive search in and around the site where Umar, a resident of Kawdara, Srinagar, was last seen.

They added, teams have been utilizing boats, drag nets, and other equipment to comb the river stretch downstream from Zainakadal. “Officers and river patrolling units remained active throughout the day in the hopes of retrieving the body, but the search was unsuccessful,” said the official.

He said the search was closed for the day as dim light made it unsafe to continue. The operation will resume with the first light of dawn tomorrow, the official further said.
