Srinagar, Dec 18 : Jammu and Kashmir has 28.05 lakh bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY), with 22.14 lakh accounts in rural areas and 5.91 lakh in urban areas, according to a government data.

The data available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reveals that RuPay debit cards have been issued to 66% of these account holders, facilitating easier access to banking services.

In terms of employment generation, 50,418 cases have been sanctioned under various major schemes, including the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM), Jammu and Kashmir Rural Employment Generation Programme (JKREGP), and Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojna (PMMY), it shows.

It shows Jammu and Kashmir also recorded 10.84 lakh active Kissan Credit Cards as of March 2024, with 8.83 lakh for crop loans and 2.01 lakh for animal husbandry and fisheries.

In the field of self-help groups (SHGs) and joint liability groups (JLGs), 53,016 SHGs (Rs. 1,942.90 crore) and 1,982 JLGs (Rs. 38.23 crore) have been brought under financial inclusion, receiving credit-linked facilities.

The data shows that financial discipline and close monitoring have led to a significant increase in the completion of projects, rising from 9,229 projects in 2018-19 to 71,858 projects in 2023-24—(KNO)
