Terming drug menace as the biggest challenge in Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz while addressing a gathering at Masjid Ali Thani in Eidgah, said that the public support in eliminating the drug menace is crucial, adding that nothing can be achieved without the public cooperation in this regard.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mirwaiz said everyone should play their role in this regard while the Masjid Committees should involve the youth to curb the menace. “If the Masjid Committees sit and take responsibility for their areas, the drug menace can be curbed easily,” he said, adding that the situation is worsening as lakhs of people are reportedly involved in the drug menace.

He added that from parents to Imams and Masjid committees, everyone has to play its role at this juncture.

“As far as the government is concerned, we will support every decision and action for the wellbeing of the society,” he said, adding that for the last three weeks, the Police department has taken various steps including attaching the properties, registering cases and arresting many people involved in drug peddling. “If police work in this direction, people will extend their support,” he said.

He added that the action against the biggest inter-state nexus will be supported by the people.

Mirwaiz also appealed to the people to take close vigil within their locality especially at the coaching centers, schools and other places. “Everyone should be given responsibility within their localities to end this menace and safeguard our future,” he said.

Meanwhile, as per a statement issued to KNO, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq emphasized the urgent need for collective action to improve societal conditions, particularly focusing on the escalating issue of drug addiction.

Highlighting the alarming statistic that over 1.5 million individuals are affected by drug addiction, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq called for a united effort to combat this epidemic. He pointed out that the vast network of mosques across the region could serve as pivotal centers in this fight.

“Mosque committees can collaborate and implement effective ways to tackle drug addiction in every area,” he stated, emphasizing the power of community involvement. They can keep an eye on suspected people in the area and help in their rehabilitation.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also expressed appreciation for the intensified efforts by the police to combat drug trafficking. Acknowledging the recent arrests of several drug dealers and the confiscation of their properties, he remarked, “It is encouraging to see the administration taking decisive steps. When good measures are taken for the welfare of our society, they should also be appreciated by all.”

Mirwaiz address stressed upon unified proactive measures, leveraging both religious institutions and law enforcement in the battle against drug addiction and the importance of community and administrative synergy in fostering a safer, healthier society—(KNO)
