Srinagar, Aug 23 : The construction work on the long-awaited Gandbal-Batwara Bridge is in its final stage with the officials claiming that the 90 per cent of the work has been completed.
The construction work on the bridge, which has been ongoing for more than seven to eight years, is finally near completion.
Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), locals expressed their emotions, and said; “The new bridge will be a significant improvement for our daily commute. It’s been a long wait”.
A local resident, Tariq Ahmad added that this bridge will be extremely helpful, as previously, they were being forced to travel all the way through Pandrathan to reach Batwara.
When contacted, the officials from the Roads and Buildings Department (R&B) said the project is 90% complete. “The bridge is expected to be opened to the general public within a week or two, depending on weather conditions,” said an official from the R&B department.
Pertinently, in April, a boat capsized in Jhelum River, resulting in the death of eight people died while the body one of the deceased is still untraced—(KNO)
