East Azerbaijan, Iran — A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has reportedly crashed in the Dizmar forest region of East Azerbaijan. According to Iranian state television, contact with the helicopter was lost earlier today, and rescue teams are currently en route to the crash site.

The helicopter, which also had Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on board, was en route to northern Iran for the inauguration of a dam project alongside the President of Azerbaijan. The area where the crash occurred is known for its treacherous weather conditions, including heavy fog that can complicate air travel.
