Jammu, May 18 : Jammu and Kashmir police have got a big success by arresting three members of Shallu gang, who were behind the killing of a police sub-inspector Deepak Sharma on April 2 during a shootout in Government Medical College Kathua.
The police have arrested these three gangsters from the neighbouring state of Punjab.
Highly placed sources told the news agency-Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that after the April 2 shootout the police had vowed to put an end to the menace of gangster-ism and in this regard a team of police was given the task to trace the gangsters hiding in neighbouring states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
“After hectic efforts, police has managed to arrest three members of Shallu gang who were behind the killing and bringing back the menace of ganster-ism in Jammu plains. These three gangsters are in police custody and efforts are being made to arrest the leader of the gang,” said a source.
On April 2, a shootout had occurred in GMC Kathua in which one gangster Vasudev was killed whereas a police sub inspector Deepak Sharma laid down his life for the country. After the shootout, a couple of people were arrested but other had managed to give police a slip and left Jammu and Kashmir without getting arrested.
On April 4, Director General of Police (DGP) R.R. Swain had vowed to bring the culprits to justice and had said that the sacrifice of PSI Deepak Sharma will not go in vain.
The source said that it was on the direction of DGP that a police team was sent to neighbouring states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to arrest the gangsters.
“The team activated all its sources and took technical help as well to trace these hiding gangsters. The team raided different areas of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and managed to arrest three members. The leader of the gang is still at large but the efforts are being made to arrest him as well,” he added—(KNO)
