Srinagar, Dec 13 (GNS): Two police personnel were killed and 12 others were injured in a militant attack on Srinagar-Jammu highway in outskirts of Srinagar, officials said on Monday.

A bus of police’s armed forces was fired upon indiscriminately near Aripora Zeewan on Monday evening, leaving at least 14 cops injured. Two of them identified as Assistant Sub Inspector Ghulam Hassan of Top Neel Bharthand Ramban and Safique Ali (Sgct) of Mamakoti Mahore in Reasi district succumbed to injuries at army’s 92 base camp Badami bag hospital here. A police officer confirmed to GNS that two policemen died. He said that condition of two others is also serious.

When this report was filed searches in the area were going on. However there were no immediate reports about arrest of any person so far.

The injured police personnel jave been identified Sajad Ahmad of Hariparigam Tral Pulwama, Rameez Ahmad of Yachama Kangan Ganderbal, Bishmber Dass of Rabta Jammu, Sanjay Kumar of Dhanera rajouri, Vikas Sharma, Abdul Majeed of Sangiiwani Rajpora Pulwama, Mudasir Ahamd of Panner Tral, Ravi Kanth of Heranagar Kathua, Showkat Ali of Hadrdumir Tral, Arshid Mohammad of badibrahmana Jammu, Liyaqat Ali of Mohichak Kathua, and Narinder Singh (driver of the bus). Besides one constable Adil has received minor injuries, they said.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attack and concerned authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured.

“strongly condemn the cowardly (militant) attack on J&K Police bus in Srinagar. My homage to our brave martyred police personnel. We are committed to ensure that perpetrators are punished. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families,” he said in a tweet, adding, “Directed the concerned authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured. I pray for their speedy recovery. Our police and security forces are determined to neutralize the evil forces of terrorism.”

Former Chief Minister and PDP vice president Omar Abdullah tweeted: “Terrible news of a terror attack on a police bus on the outskirts of Srinagar. I unequivocally condemn this attack while at the same time send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased & prayers for the injured.”

Former Chief Minister and PDP president also tweeted: “Terribly sad to hear about the Srinagar attack in which two policemen were killed. GOIs false narrative of normalcy in Kashmir stands exposed yet there has been no course correction. My condolences to the bereaved families.”

People Conference president Sajad Gani Lone tweeted: “Yet again a cowardly and a dastardly attack. Strongly condemn the attack. My heart goes out for the families. My prayers. May the killers rot in hell .”

Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari also condemned the attack.
In a statement issued here, Bukhari termed the incident as the most reprehensible and heinous act where two precious lives were lost in cold blood.

“These acts of senseless bloodshed have always been responsible for adding more to the existing miseries of the people living in J&K. Every time such an ominous attack happens, either a mother loses a beloved son or a daughter becomes an orphan. These inhumane attacks have no place in any civilized society and there needs to be an end to this mayhem now” he remarked.

Bukhari said he shared the pain and sorrow of the bereaved families and extended heartfelt condolences to kith and kin of the deceased.

“I express my profound solidarity with bereaved family members in this time of despair and pray for the eternal peace to the departed souls. I also pray for the speedy recovery of those officials who got injured in this attack,” he observed.(GNS)
