Srinagar, Nov 07 : Mortal remains of a Kashmiri student Adnan Altaf Rathar, who died in Bangladesh on November 4, are likely to reach Srinagar on Sunday.
A source told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the repatriation process has entered its final stage, with only packing and handover of the mortal remains to the family remaining. “It is likely to be completed by Sunday morning,” he added.
Pertinently, the matter to get the mortal remains of Adnan from Bangladesh was taken up by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah with the Ministry of External Affairs, while Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo had requested Union Health Minister J P Nadda to intervene to help the grief-stricken family.
Meanwhile, National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), Nasir Khuehami, told KNO that the embalming process had been delayed due to difficulties in arranging a government-authorised doctor, further compounded by Friday being an official holiday in Bangladesh.
He said embalming was mandatory before international transportation, as airlines require the prescribed procedure and documentation before accepting mortal remains. “We are hopeful that the remaining formalities, including packing and handover to the family, will be completed by Sunday morning. Subject to their completion and flight arrangements, we expect Adnan’s mortal remains to reach India on Sunday,” he said.
Khuehami said the delay has caused immense pain and anguish to the bereaved family, particularly Adnan’s mother, who is also in Bangladesh.
He further said he had spoken to Chief Minister’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, who assured him that an ambulance would be arranged to transport Adnan’s mortal remains from Srinagar Airport to his native place in Sopore—(KNO)
