Poonch, October 5 : Treasury Office Mendhar in Poonch district is functioning without a permanent Accountant for the last one year, causing immense hardships to pensioners, senior citizens, general public and employees of various government departments.
Sources told GNS that despite repeated representations to Director Accounts & Treasuries Jammu and District Treasury Officer Poonch, the key post continues to remain vacant.
The Accountant is considered the backbone of Treasury functioning, responsible for scrutiny of bills, financial advice, implementation of Finance Department circulars and instructions, pension matters and coordination with DDOs.
Locals said that Mendhar being a remote and border area, people have to travel long distances to reach the Treasury for their pension and other financial works. In absence of a regular Accountant, pensioners and senior citizens are the worst sufferers as their cases remain pending for want of proper technical guidance.
They said that though the present staff is managing the affairs to the best of its ability, lack of an experienced Accountant has created a vacuum in supervision and interpretation of financial rules.
Prominent citizens, pensioners and retired employees of the area have appealed to the Directorate of Accounts and Treasuries Jammu to post a regular and experienced Accountant at Treasury Mendhar immediately in the larger public interest, terming it not just an administrative need but a public necessity.(GNS)
