Sopore, Feb 21: HSS Dangarpora marked International Mother Tongue Day with remarkable enthusiasm and intellectual vibrancy, reaffirming its steadfast commitment to preserving and promoting the region’s rich linguistic heritage.
The programme was presided over by Principal Mushtaq Sopori, who addressed a distinguished gathering of academicians, scholars, and faculty members. In his eloquent and thought-provoking speech, he described the mother tongue as the cornerstone of cultural identity and national recognition. Emphasising its pedagogical significance, he advocated for the effective use of the mother tongue as a powerful medium of instruction to foster deeper understanding, critical thinking, and inclusive education.
Highlighting the present challenges faced by regional languages, he stressed the urgent need for collective unity and sustained efforts to restore the Kashmiri language to its rightful place in society.
Among the prominent speakers were Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, former lecturer Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, and Mehboob-un-Nisa. The speakers voiced concern over the declining status of the Kashmiri language in Jammu and Kashmir and called upon educators, policymakers, and the wider community to adopt concrete measures to revitalise and institutionalise it as a defining language of the region. They underlined the importance of sensitising younger generations to the richness, depth, and legacy embedded within their mother tongue.
The proceedings were conducted with grace and efficiency by Muhammad Ashraf, Senior Lecturer, who ensured the seamless flow of the event.
The celebration concluded on a note of renewed resolve, with participants pledging to safeguard linguistic diversity and promote Kashmiri as a vibrant symbol of cultural pride, identity, and collective heritage.
