North Kashmir gets first Ayurvedic Medical College in Sopore

Sopore, Feb 06 : In a significant boost to healthcare infrastructure, North Kashmir has got its first Ayurvedic Medical College, with the government deciding to establish the institution in Sopore. The announcement was made during the ongoing Budget session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

The announcement, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) sparked widespread celebrations, with residents beating dhols and bursting firecrackers to mark the historic development.

Local MLA Irshad Rasool Kar hailed the move as “historic and happy,” expressing heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

“The promises made by the CM during election rallies and his remarks on giving special attention to Sopore are now bearing fruit. I am sincerely thankful to him”, MLA Kar told reporters on the sidelines of the session.

He said the government is firm on commitment to implementing its manifesto within the tenure, adding that welfare schemes would gradually extend to general category people as well.

Residents described the new medical college as a major milestone for the healthcare sector in North Kashmir, promising enhanced access to traditional Ayurvedic education and services in the region—(KNO)
