SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 5 (KNT): Security arrangements have been intensified along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, particularly around the Navyug Tunnel in Qazigund, ahead of the scheduled visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
According to officials, the enhanced security grid is being overseen on the ground by Additional Superintendent of Police (NHW) Qazigund, Mumtaz Ali Bhatti, who is coordinating with various units to ensure seamless deployment and vigilance.
The operation is being executed by senior officers, including the SDPO and SHO Qazigund, along with the officer in charge of the Navyug Tunnel. Additional police and security personnel have been deployed at strategic points along the highway to maintain strict monitoring and facilitate safe movement.
Apart from increased manpower, authorities have activated advanced surveillance systems, including wall radar installations and thermal detection equipment around the tunnel area to strengthen monitoring and enable early detection of potential threats.
Police officials said the measures are being implemented as per directions issued by SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Chowdhury and are part of standard security protocols during high-level visits.
Authorities described the arrangements as preventive, stating that the primary objective is to ensure public safety, maintain law and order, and secure the movement of dignitaries and commuters along the busy highway corridor. (KNT)
