RAJOURI, January 14: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday paid rich tributes to ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and their families on the occasion of the 10th Armed Forces Veterans Day at a commemorative event held at ALG Rajouri, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of veterans.
Addressing a large gathering, the Lieutenant Governor described Armed Forces veterans as the “embodiment of living history,” saying their sacrifices have not only safeguarded India’s freedom but also shaped the destiny of the nation.
“Our veterans and brave soldiers always put the safety of others above their own. The courage and sacrifice of the Army is the backbone of our nation’s security,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor observed that service in the Armed Forces is not merely a profession but a lifelong commitment that continues even after the uniform is folded away. He said the courage of veterans extends beyond the battlefield, contributing to peace, stability and national progress.
“The sacrifices of our soldiers often remain unseen. While the nation sleeps in peace, they remain alert. While the nation celebrates festivals, our soldiers stand guard far away from home. They do not speak of sacrifice; they live it every moment,” he added.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor inaugurated a ‘Wall of Fame’ and launched a dedicated police helpline service for veterans, reiterating the government’s resolve—under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi—to ensure comprehensive care for veterans and their families.
Calling veterans role models for the youth, the Lieutenant Governor said they continue to guide the nation with timeless values, character and selfless service. “From safeguarding the nation to serving society, our Armed Forces veterans continue to shape India’s future. It is my commitment to honour their service through care, dignity and sustained support,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also paid homage to Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, and remembered war heroes including Second Lieutenant Ram Raghoba Rane, Brigadier Mohammad Usman, Naik Jadunath Singh and the bravehearts of Rajouri.
A mega Ex-Servicemen Rally was organised to mark the occasion, during which motorised wheelchairs, retrofitted scooties and other mobility aids were distributed to veterans and Veer Naris.
Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, GOC-in-C Northern Command; Lt Gen P.K. Mishra, GOC White Knight Corps; Maj Gen Kaushik Mukherjee, GOC 25 Infantry Division; Brig (Retd) Pankaj Chib, Director Sainik Welfare Department, along with veterans, Veer Naris, elected representatives, senior civil, police and security officials, and prominent citizens were present at the event.
