Srinagar, Jan 28 : National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said that only Allah can protect the Waqf properties and people should seek forgiveness from the Almighty.

Talking to reporters here, Dr Farooq, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, “We are Muslims by name only not by actions. That’s why the situation is worsening for Muslims. People should seek forgiveness from the Almighty.”

Asked about the statement made in Mahakumbh over Waqf, Dr Farooq said that “Almighty is the guardian of the properties and only Allah can protect the Waqf properties.”

Urging the people to wake up before it’s too late the National Conference (NC) President said that “Kashmiris themselves were responsible for drug abuse becoming a menace in the Valley.”

Replying to a query about New Delhi blaming Pakistan for sending drugs into Kashmir, he said, “I don’t know who is to be blamed. We Kashmiris are responsible for ruining the Valley. The problem is drugs are a big money and a lot of people are involved in this money, but unless we Kashmiris wake up, we will never be able to eliminate this menace from society.”

“Drugs have destroyed the Valley. Peddlers are Kashmiris and those getting addicted are also Kashmiris. I am happy that Police have been acting tough against the criminals involved in the drug trade.”

About his recent statement on Article 370, Dr Farooq said the provision was aimed at safeguarding the identity of J&K people. “It was not meant for a single community, but the Maharajas had brought this provision in 1927 amidst the apprehensions that the jobs will be secured by the outsiders here.”

Asked about the delay in Statehood restoration, the NC President said that this question should be posed to those who are delaying it, adding that “We are waiting for its restoration and will continue to wait for it.”—(KNO)
