Srinagar, Feb 13 : Police on Sunday solved case relating to theft of cash from donation box at venerated shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (Dastageer Sahib) in Khanyar area of Srinagar by arrested two accused person.

A police spokesperson in a statement to GNS said that Investigation into the case also led to arrest of three more accused who had committed burglaries in Srinagar city.

On February 10, Khanyar police station received information that donation box at Dastgeer Sahib Shrine in Khanyar has been broken open and cash looted from it during the intervening night of 9th and 10th February. He said a case under FIR no 05/2022 U/S 380, 427 of IPC was registered and investigation was taken up.

“During the investigation of this case, technical means of investigation were employed. After obtaining initial leads about one of the accused, two teams were constituted at Police station Khanyar under supervision of Mohammad Yasser Parrey, SDPO khanyar to nab the culprits,” he said, adding, “After consistent efforts, the first accused identified as Tahir Ahmad Miralias 90 of Harden, Kupwara was apprehended from Lolab area of Kupwara on February 13.”

The spokesperson said that Malla after initial examination confessed to the commission of offence in light of technical evidences. “He also disclosed about his another associate who was involved in the offence namely Jaffar Ahmad Mir of the same area of Kupwara,” he said, adding, “On their instance, cash amounting to Rs 8090 has been recovered so far relating to theft from donation box.”

Moreover, he said, during their sustained examination, the arrested accused confessed to commission of other thefts in Srinagar city.

“Subsequently, three(3) more suspects were arrested and stolen Jewellery items worth lakhs were also recovered on their instance,” he said, adding, “Further Investigation in full swing and some more arrests and recoveries are likely.” (GNS)
