Baramulla, Dec 28 : Accusing Power Development Department(PDD) of ‘callous attitude’, hundreds of locals on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration after a casual labour of PDD died of electrocution in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the casual labour identified as Mohd Ramzan Wagay of Rawoocha Rafiabad was critically injured after he received an electric shock while repairing a transmission line in the area.

“Following the incident, the injured was taken to a nearby health center where doctors declared him dead on arrival,” they said.

Meanwhile, the locals staged a massive protest against the PDD terming the incident as sheer negligence of the department. The protester also demands stern action against those behind the incident.

“The deceased had two minor daughters. We want to ask the department what will happen to them now,” a local protester said, adding that all this has happened due to the negligence of the power department.

“The department has its own senior officers who never do this work themselves while they also have training due to which the lives of these poor employees are lost,” another protester said, adding that the government should provide compensation to the victim’s family—(KNO)
