Srinagar, Dec 16 : Students enrolled for Bachelors of Education degree with Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir, have urged varsity authorities to reschedule the timings of exam for third and fourth semesters, scheduled from December 23, in view of anticipated chilly weather conditions coupled with prevailing short day duration.

A delegation of students told GNS that the University officials have notified their datesheet this week. However what is ‘puzzling’ them is the exam timing, which they say has been kept as 2:15 PM. “The exam timing has taken us all aback, for we have a paper duration of two and a half hours”, they said adding if they (university) continued with it (timing), the students would face a great inconvenience.

Given the anticipated weather conditions in Valley coupled with short day duration, we urge the varsity authorities to kindly revisit and accordingly reschedule the exam timings for the larger benefit of students.

“There even is less transport available these days and students from far off places have to reach exam centres and then reach back to homes, which supposedly is going to be another issue for the students especially girls”, the students said.
The delegation members reiterated their request and urged the varsity authorities to revisit the exam timings and start it at least half an hour before the timing given in the datesheet.

When contacted, Controller of Examinations Irshad Ahmad Nawchoo however said that there can’t be any rescheduling in exam timings for it will cause clash with other exams. “We have other exams in the same centres which conclude at 2 PM and if we change the timing, it will cause clash”, he told GNS.

When asked about the particular issues raised by students, the Controller of Examinations said “We cannot change all the exams, datesheets, centres as per demand of students.”

“Currently we are conducting eleven exams and if we change timings, it will create clash”, he explained.

Vice Chancellor Talat Parvaiz told GNS that they have to arrange the things and as such we can’t prepone or postpone it (on demand of the students).

“I will ask him (Controller of Examinations) if it is possible”, the top academician said. (GNS)
