SRINAGAR, JANUARY 28 (KNT): The Jammu Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has expressed shock and anguish over the alleged assault on an 18-year-old Kashmiri youth who was selling shawls along with his family in the Vikas Nagar area of Uttarakhand.
In a statement, the association said the youth was attacked by a group of miscreants and beaten, leaving him with multiple injuries. “His left arm was fractured and he sustained serious head injuries after being struck with iron rods. He was first taken to a local hospital and later referred to Doon Hospital, Dehradun, for specialised treatment,” the statement said.
According to the association, relatives of the victim said the boy was initially questioned about his identity. “After learning that the family belonged to the Muslim community and was from Kashmir, the violence escalated. The youth was repeatedly punched, while other family members were allegedly dragged and assaulted,” it said.
Terming the incident a reminder of rising communal profiling and mob violence, the JKSA said the youth was trying to support his family’s livelihood during the harsh winter months.
The association urged Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to intervene, ensure registration of a strict FIR, and take action against those involved under relevant provisions of law. (KNT)
