Uri, Jan 24 : An elderly woman on oxygen support was saved following a swift and coordinated effort by local youth and the Jammu and Kashmir Police amid heavy snowfall in the remote Nakhawada area of Bijhama in Boniyar.

Officials in the know-how of things told GNS that the woman’s condition turned critical after electricity supply was disrupted due to strong winds and heavy snowfall on Friday. The power outage rendered her oxygen concentrator non-functional. Although a generator was available, it could not be operated due to lack of fuel, putting the patient’s life at serious risk.

On receiving information, Station House Officer Bijhama, Irshad Ahmad, along with local youth, acted promptly. Through coordinated efforts, they arranged fuel for the generator and also secured an oxygen cylinder. The timely intervention ensured uninterrupted oxygen support and saved the woman’s life.

Residents of the area appreciated the efforts of the SHO and the local youth, describing the incident as a strong example of humanity and collective responsibility during emergencies.

Locals, however, urged the government to strengthen electricity supply and healthcare infrastructure in remote areas to prevent such life-threatening situations in the future, particularly during harsh winter conditions. (GNS)
