Poonch, Jan 17 : Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Poonch Police have directed all tenants residing in the district to get themselves registered at their nearest police stations within two days, terming the exercise essential from a security perspective.
Police officials on Saturday used public address systems mounted on vehicles to make announcements across various localities, including the Mandi area of Poonch, urging landlords and tenants to comply with the directive without delay. The announcements were made repeatedly to ensure wider public awareness.
Officials said tenant verification and registration are routine security measures. “It is important from a security point of view that complete data of tenants is available to the police,” an official said, adding that similar verification drives have already been completed in several districts of the Jammu region, and the exercise is now being intensified in Poonch to plug any potential security gaps.
Tenants have been advised to approach the nearest police station with relevant documents for registration, while landlords have been cautioned to ensure compliance to avoid any legal action.
Authorities said the drive is preventive in nature and aimed at strengthening the overall security grid in the border district. [KNT]
