Tral, June 10: Amidst a surge in visitors to the renowned health resort Gujjar-Saran in the Lam area of Aripal Tral, District Development Council (DDC) member Manzoor Ganai has voiced concerns over the misuse of a vital water body. The water body, which supplies drinking water to numerous villages across the Tral sub-district, is increasingly being used by visitors for bathing to escape the summer heat.

Ganai has appealed to the Jal Shakti Department to relocate the water supply pipelines upstream from the bathing areas to ensure the provision of clean water to residents. He also urged the district administration to address the issue promptly to safeguard public health.

The DDC member highlighted that local youth frequently use the pipeline for bathing, contaminating the water and jeopardizing its quality. With the pipeline serving as a critical source of drinking water for nearly 20 villages, ensuring its cleanliness is paramount for the well-being of the community.

The recent heatwave has exacerbated the situation, as many residents and visitors alike seek relief by bathing in the open pipeline. This has heightened fears of water contamination, potentially endangering thousands of lives.

Ganai emphasized the urgent need for preventive measures to maintain water quality and protect the health of the region’s residents. He called on the authorities to act swiftly to resolve the issue and ensure the uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water.
