Police Intensifies Crackdown Against Banned Seperatist Organization In North Kashmir

Srinagar, March 25 : Police on Tuesday said that it have intensified crackdown against separatist organization in North Kashmir’s Handwara, Kupwara and Sopore.

In a handout to GNS, the police said that it carried out an extensive search operation in Botingoo area of Sopore as part of an ongoing investigation into a case involving members of the proscribed organisation Jammu and Kashmir National Front (JKNF), led by Nayeem Ahmed Khan alias Firdous.

The raid was specifically targeted the residence of a person believed to be an associated spokesperson of the banned outfit.

Jammu and Kashmir National Front was officially declared a banned organisation in December 2024 due to its unlawful activities, he said.

The spokesman further stated that the search operation was part of a broader crackdown on individuals linked to the banned outfit, aimed at disrupting any unlawful or anti-national activities being carried out under its name. Key documents and digital evidence were seized during the operation, which will aid further investigations.

Sopore police said that the searches were conducted in accordance with legal procedures and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region by acting strictly against elements involved in unlawful associations, he said.

The police spokesman further stated that Continuing its crackdown against banned separatist organizations, Kupwara Police today conducted multiple raids across the district, targeting individuals associated with proscribed outfits such as Tehreek-e-Hurriyat , Muslim League, and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party. Early morning raids were conducted at village Kralpora ,Khurhama ,main town kupwara and Trussu Dragmulla .

Led by senior officers, the police carried out searches at the residential premises of separatist elements suspected of involvement in unlawful activities that pose a threat to public order and national security.

During the search operations, law enforcement officials seized incriminating material linked to the activities of these banned outfits. The recovered items are now under investigation, forming a crucial part of multiple FIRs registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The raids were conducted in the presence of Magistrates and independent witnesses to ensure full legal adherence and procedural transparency.

Kupwara Police remains committed to dismantling unlawful networks and taking strict action against individuals attempting to disrupt peace and stability in the region, he said.

Also in Handwara, the police said that in connection with the investigation of Case FIR No. 07/2024 at Handwara Police Station, Handwara Police have conducted searches at multiple locations, including the residences of individuals associated with the proscribed organization Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (G).

During search incriminating material found, further investigation is going on, reads the statement.(GNS)
