Gulmarg, other higher reaches receive fresh snowfall, rains lash plains

Srinagar, Jan 31 : The higher reaches of Kashmir Valley once again received light snowfall while the rains lashed plains on Friday, bringing down the mercury in the Valley.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), light snowfall was experienced in the higher reaches of Gurez valley, Sonamarg, Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, Sinthan Top, Pir ki Gali and other areas.

In Gurez, 4 inches of snowfall was recorded till this evening while 8 inches of snowfall was recorded in Sonamarg. 3 inches of snowfall accumulated in Sinthan Top and Pir ki Gali also, shared Aadil Maqbool, an Independent Weather Forecaster.

Reports of light snow were also received from DK Marg, Noorabad Kulgam and Baltal Pahalgam.

It was snowing at Gulmarg and other parts when the report was last filed.

Moreover, the plains of Kashmir including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, were lashed by the rains today, bringing down the mercury across Kashmir.

Below normal temperature was recorded at Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Qazigund and Kokernag stations.

According to the Director Meteorological department, there is a forecast of more snow in the next 24 hours, saying that light rain and snow could occur at scattered places towards evening and night to February 01 morning or forenoon.

He said that partly to generally cloudy weather is expected on February 02 while on February 03, generally cloudy weather is expected towards evening with the possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places.

On February 04, there is also the possibility of light to moderate rain and snow at many places while on February 5, there is possibility of light rain and snow at scattered places towards early morning and forenoon, he said, adding that the weather would remain generally cloudy from February 06 to 08.

In its advisory, the MeT has advised the tourists, travelers and transporters to follow administration and traffic advisory—(KNO)
