Burglars decamp with vital machinery of WSS in South Kashmir

Pulwama, Jan 18 : The burglars have stolen machinery from a Water Supply Scheme in South Kashmir, rendering the water supply to three villages affected.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that vital machinery of the water supply scheme worth lakhs located in Darbagh Zainapora Shopian has been stolen during the night due to which the supply got defunct.

He said that this scheme is catering to Darbagh in Shopian and Zahid Bagh and Rakh in Pulwama district. The official said that the incident has left the residents of these villages without access to potable water, exacerbating the existing water scarcity issues.

The residents of the area stated that the water supply scheme has become a headache for them as it has been facing different issues from day one.

They said the scheme was constructed for just 200 households but later around 500 households have been added to it due to which the people are suffering.

They demanded the government to take steps for creating a separate source for Zahid Bagh and Rakh villages so that they can get better water facilities.

The residents demanded investigation in this regard and urged authorities to take steps to restore supply at an earliest.

Meanwhile, an official of PHE Mechanical Engineering Wing told KNO that employees, who were assigned night duty were absent and thus are responsible for this negligence.

He said that they have informed police in this regard who visited the spot and investigation has been taken up. He said that efforts to on to restore the supply in these villages at an earliest—(KNO)
