Srinagar, Dec 29: Minha Ayaz Wani, a 17-year-old chess prodigy from Khanyar, Srinagar, has carved her name in history as the only girl from Kashmir to qualify for the National Chess Championship. Her remarkable achievement has brought pride and recognition to the valley, highlighting the rising talent among Kashmiri youth.

Born on March 11, 2007, Minha is the daughter of Ayaz Ahmed Wani and Gulshan Ayaz. From a young age, she displayed a sharp mind and a passion for the game, which has translated into a series of impressive victories at district, state, and national levels.

A Journey of Triumphs
Minha’s chess journey is decorated with numerous accolades:

3-time state-level gold medalist

6-time inter-district gold medalist

3 district-level gold medals

Her achievements extend beyond the local stage, as she has twice represented Kashmir at national chess events, making her a standout figure in the region’s sports community.

At the National Chess Championship held in Kolkata, Minha’s strategic brilliance shone through as she secured critical victories, reinforcing her reputation as one of the top emerging talents from Jammu and Kashmir.

Minha’s success story is not just a personal milestone but a source of inspiration for aspiring young girls across the valley. Her ability to balance academics and chess while consistently excelling in the game highlights her dedication and discipline.

Her family, overwhelmed with pride, described her achievement as a moment of honor for all of Kashmir. “Minha’s journey reflects the potential within our youth. She has set an example that with perseverance, great heights can be achieved,” said her father, Ayaz Ahmed Wani.
