Mysterious disease claims another life at Budhal, Rajouri, toll 9

Srinagar, Dec 24 : A mysterious disease has claimed yet another life in Budhal area of Rajouri district, taking the toll up to nine in the last 15 days.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a pregnant woman from Budhal area of Rajouri district became the ninth suspected victim of a mysterious illness.

Razeem Akhter, wife of Mohammad Rafiq, resident of Budhal Koteranka Rajouri, was five months pregnant.

He said that Razeem was brought to the local hospital at Kotranka. Her condition worsened and she was referred to Government Hospital in Rajouri where she died.

He added that she had lost her three children Ashfaq (12), Ishtiyaq (7) and Nazia (5), to the same unidentified disease earlier this month.

Officials said that a post-mortem examination has been conducted to determine the cause of her death.

Earlier, deaths were attributed to food poisoning, however, later the investigations revealed that food poisoning was not the cause, and the deaths were attributed to unknown factors.

It is pertinent to mention here that from December 8, 2024 up to now, a total 9 persons from two families including 7 children and a female have lost their lives but the exact cause of deaths could not be known till date.

Officials claim that teams have already been constituted at CHC Kandi, CMO office Rajouri and GMC Rajouri to ascertain the cause behind it.

They said that the case is under investigation and efforts are on to ascertain the cause of the deaths.

Meanwhile, the administration at GMC Rajouri has suspended five doctors pending enquiry.

They have been identified as Dr Veenu Bharti, Dr Neetu, Dr Shakir Ahmad Parry, Dr Shafkat Ulla and Dr Anif Saleem Rather while Dr Davinder Kumar and Dr Barinder Kumar have been directed to explain about the duties they performed and whether they informed the higher ups regarding deteriorating condition of patient and to submit their hourly round report.
