Srinagar, Dec 16 : Bollywood superstar Sunny Deol’s much-anticipated film Border-2, based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war, is expected to be filmed in Jammu and Kashmir. The sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Border will also feature Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles.

Sources from the tourism department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the initial schedule to shoot the movie in November 2024 was postponed. Now, plans are underway to begin filming early next year. Two locations in Jammu and Kashmir have been shortlisted for the shoot, with the filmmakers seeking permission from the Indian Army to proceed.

Filmmaker JP Dutta and his daughter, Nidhi Dutta, have consulted a former Army major to gather insights and details about the 1971 war, ensuring the film accurately portrays the events. This commitment to authenticity aims to make Border-2 a gripping cinematic experience, capturing the realities of war.

The first Border film, released in 1997, was based on the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 war and was shot primarily in Rajasthan. However, the sequel is expected to showcase the landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir, with potential shooting sites including areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir and the Rajouri-Poonch sector. Filming may also extend to Dehradun.

The resurgence of Bollywood in Kashmir is a nod to the region’s unparalleled beauty. In recent years, several blockbuster films have been shot here, including Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Raazi, Fitoor, Haider, Highway, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Before the 1990s, Kashmir was a preferred location for Bollywood, hosting classics such as Kashmir Ki Kali, Junglee, Bobby, Karma, Kabhi Kabhi, Henna, and Silsila. With Border-2, this legacy is set to continue, blending history with the scenic charm of Jammu and Kashmir.

If approved, the shoot is expected to bring renewed attention to the region, bolstering its reputation as a favored destination for filmmakers while spotlighting the rich historical context of the 1971 war—(KNO)
