Jammu, Dec 11 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday reiterated that his government will strengthen public engagement through regular interactions with civil society, stating their role in providing unfiltered feedback on government policies and decisions will remain crucial for the government functioning.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Omar while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the indicative session with the members of civil society said that the issue of Darbar Move has gained prominence after the elections, and that it was a key point of discussion during the meeting. Omar reiterated that Jammu’s unique importance and significance would not be diminished and that the practice of Darbar Move would be restored as promised in his party’s manifesto.

Speaking about his interaction with the civil society, the Chief Minister noted the importance of gathering direct feedback from the public. “It’s unrealistic to assume that those in power are always fully aware of the immediate impact of their decisions. Regular feedback is crucial to gauge whether these decisions are yielding the desired outcomes,” he said.

Omar acknowledged that relying solely on government systems for feedback can be challenging, as the voices reaching the top often come from those inclined to praise. “Civil society meetings like this provide a platform for people to express their suggestions and concerns without any agenda, which proves immensely beneficial for us,” he said.

During the meeting, Omar Abdullah promised to hold such interactions at least twice a year—once in Jammu during the winter and once in Kashmir during the summer. “Issues raised during these sessions will be carefully noted, and an action-taken report will be presented in subsequent meetings to maintain transparency and accountability,” Omar said—(KNO)
