Govt declares offices of SSPs of SIA as police stations for registration and investigation of cases

Srinagar, Dec 05 : The Jammu & Kashmir Government has declared offices of the Senior Superintendents of Police of the State Investigation Agency (SIA) as police stations for registering and investigation of cases.

The Union Territory’s Home Department, in a notification said, that the Government has declared the offices of SSP, SIA, Kashmir and SSP, SIA, Jammu as police stations respectively for SIA Kashmir and SIA Jammu for the purpose of registering and investigating cases within the territorial jurisdiction of Kashmir and Jammu.

The notification was issued under the Section 2(1) (U) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023) on November 19, 2024, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

On November 01, 2021, the SIA was set-up by the J & K administration for speedy and effective investigation and prosecution of militancy-related cases.

It also acts as a nodal agency for coordinating with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other central agencies.

In its order regarding creation of SIA in 2021, the Home Department had said that the SIA will have powers to suo moto register First Information Report (FIR). “All the officers in-charge of the police stations shall mandatorily intimate the SIA immediately upon registration of terrorism related cases and also about the cases where any terrorism linkage surfaces during the investigation,” the order said—(KNO)
