Srinagar, Nov 27 : Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh on Wednesday warned that rash driving, passenger overloading and speed limit violations will not be tolerated. He said that unfit vehicles will be seized on the spot.

Speaking during a visit to north Kashmir, Singh told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that maintaining discipline in driving is key to reducing accidents. “Adhering to traffic rules is essential to prevent accidents and ensure road safety,” he said, adding that everyone must follow these rules.

SSP Singh said that a lack of civic responsibility among some motorists is leading to road safety issues. He called for awareness campaigns to ensure better discipline on the roads. “Rash driving, overloading of passengers and speed limit violations will not be tolerated,” he warned, adding that zero-tolerance measures are now in place to tackle such infractions.

The SSP urged drivers to ensure that they have all necessary documents, including High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP), insurance and pollution control certificates. “There will be regular vehicle inspections, particularly in remote areas,” he said, adding that unfit vehicles will be seized.

Singh has appealed to parents to discourage teenagers from driving. “Issuing vehicles to teenagers is not only irresponsible but also punishable,” he said. “Parents must promote discipline and avoid shielding such behaviour.”

Following a series of recent fatal accidents in Srinagar, extensive traffic drives have been launched to reduce congestion, raise awareness and enforce compliance. These efforts have led to the seizure of thousands of vehicles in recent days—(KNO)
