Srinagar, Nov 27 : Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police on Wednesday said to have arrested a drug peddler in Srinagar and recovered psychotropic substance from his possession.

“A police party of Police Station M.R Gunj arrested a drug peddler identified as Altaf Ahmad Shah son of Gulam Hassan Shah resident of Dalal Mohalla Zainakadal. The police team recovered 500 tablets of banned composition and 15 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from Hyundai i-20 bearing registration number JK15A-8122 driven by the aforementioned accused person who had intentionally hidden these in the boot cavity & underside of driver seat of the car. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 48/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station M.R Gunj and further investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” police said—(KNO)
