Srinagar, Nov 6, KNT: As winter sets in, renowned cardiologist and former SKIMS Director, Dr. A G Ahangar has laid stress on the importance of adopting healthy habits to combat the challenges of the season.

While talking to the news agency Kashmir News Trust (KNT), Dr. Ahangar advised people, particularly the elderly, to avoid the “5 S” – salt, sugar, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, and stress – to prevent diseases and reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, liver, and kidney failure.

“It is very important for patients, especially the elderly, to avoid smoking and minimize the intake of salt and sugar,” Dr. Ahangar said. He also stressed the importance of regular exercise and walking daily to avoid a sedentary lifestyle.

“We can avoid most diseases and even avoid the chances of heart attacks, strokes, liver, and kidney failure if we follow the ‘5 S Rule’,” Dr. Ahangar added.

Additionally, Dr. Ahangar advised age-old patients to maintain their body temperature during winter by wearing warm clothes. He also recommended utilizing available vaccines to prevent viral infections.

“There are many vaccines available in the market, and these can avoid respiratory and viral infections. People should vaccinate themselves,” he said. [KNT]
