Srinagar, Nov 6: A heated debate erupted in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Wednesday morning when Deputy Chief Minister and National Conference leader Surinder Singh Choudhary introduced a resolution seeking the restoration of the Jammu Kashmir’s special status. The move was met with fierce opposition from BJP members, with Sunil Sharma arguing that the resolution is unacceptable.
The resolution as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust tabled by Choudhary aims to reinstate the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was revoked in 2019. However, BJP members contested the move.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather asked the opinion of the membes of the assembly while the majority of the legislators excluding BJP members supported the resolution. Accordingly, the Speaker passed the resolution. [KNT]
