Farooq, Mehbooba among several people visit Mirwaiz’s residence to offer condolences

Srinagar, Nov 04 : Several political leaders including the former chief ministers of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State visited the Jama Masjid’s head cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his residence in Nigeen to offer their condolences.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), pertinently, the patriarch of Mirwaiz family, Mirwaiz Mohammad Ahmad, illustrious son of Muhajir-e-Millat, Mufasir-e-Quran, Mirwaiz Yousuf Shah (RA), passed away in Islamabad, Pakistan yesterday night, after a brief illness.

The former chief ministers including National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti visited Mirwaiz at his residence to offer their condolences.

On the occasion, Mehbooba while speaking to the media persons said that it is unfortunate that the Mirwaiz was not allowed to offer the funeral prayers in absentia. “I don’t know why the government is taking such measures, which gives an impression that the people here are slaves,” she said.

Moreover, several civil society members and the religious clerics visited the Mirwaiz today to express their condolences—(KNO)
