Government Medical College Srinagar welcomes New MBBS Batch

Srinagar, Oct 14 : Government Medical College Srinagar Monday welcomed the new MBBS Batch 2024 in a grand function held here.

During the event, freshers were introduced to the Heads of Departments, faculty members, administration, and also other staff associated with academics, marking the beginning of their medical journey.

On the occasion, students were briefed about the college’s rules and regulations, academic schedule, and various facilities available. They were introduced to departments like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and also departments in their undergraduate course.

The new batch was familiarized with associated hospitals, including Govt. SMHS Hospital, Govt. Super Specialty Hospital, Govt. 500 bedded Children Hospital Bemina, Govt. Bone & Joint Hospital, Govt. Chest Disease Hospital, Govt LD hospital, Kashmir Nursing Home and Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences, apart from giving them an overview of peripheral health centres associated with the Deptt of Community Medicine of GMC Srinagar.

In her welcome address Principal/Dean Govt, Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan warmly welcomed the students and their parents emphasizing GMC Srinagar’s commitment to quality medical education, highlighting academic excellence, clinical exposure, research opportunities, and student support services. Parents of the students were also requested to work shoulder to shoulder with the teachers and the college administration so as to shape them up into good doctors.

HODs of various specialties like Prof. Nahid Nahvi from Microbiology, Prof. Ghulam Mohammad from Anatomy, Prof. Sabiya Majeed from Biochemistry, Prof. Shahzada Salim Khan from Community Medicine, Dr Arsalan from Forensic Medicine, Prof. Rakesh Kaul from Medicine, Prof. Iqbal Saleem from General Surgery, Prof. Muzzafar Jan from Paediatrics, Prof. Mohammad Maqbool from Psychiatry, Prof. Altaf Kawoosa from Orthopaedics, Dr. Yasmeen Jabeen from Dermatology, Prof. Masuma Rizvi from Gynaecology & Obstetrics and Prof Shoukat Ahmad Kadla from Gastroenterology also introduced their departments, outlining departmental strengths, faculty expertise, teaching methodologies, and research focus areas and welcomed the students.

Administrator Associated hospitals GMC Srinagar, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak and other administrative staff were also introduced to the students.

Professor Suhail Ahmad Gilkar from Physiology and Coordinator Medical Education Unit (MEU) who moderated the event, gave an overview of GMC Srinagar and administered oath to the students for formal induction in the MBBS course.

Dy Registrar Academics Prof. Saleem Ittoo briefed the Students about the teaching programmes in GMC Srinagar and advised them to work hard, develop critical thinking and seek guidance from faculty and mentors—(KNO)
