According to the details available with the Kashmir Bulletin (KB), the procession, a centuries-old tradition, was marked by fervent prayers and supplications to Almighty Allah, seeking relief from the prolonged dry spell.

Patiently, the devotees, carrying the sacred Alam (flag), marched through the streets, chanting slogans and seeking blessings.

Ghulam Hassan, a local farmer, speaking to KB, said they are facing a severe water crisis in the area. “We are facing a severe water crisis, and our crops are dying. We have come here to pray for rain and relief from this heat wave,” he said.

Lastly, the procession was attended by people from all walks of life, who prayed for an end to the dry spell and sought blessings for the region’s prosperity.

Meanwhile, the heat wave has severely impacted the agricultural sector, with crops withering away due to the lack of rainfall. The people of Sopore and surrounding areas are anxiously waiting for the monsoon rains to arrive, and the Alam Sharif procession was seen as a collective effort to seek divine intervention.—(KB)
