Shopian, Jul 03 : The bus stand in Shopian town is lacking basic facilities causing inconvenience to passengers.
Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), several passengers expressed anger at the lack of basic facilities including drinking water, toilets and passenger shed at the stand.
Gulzar Ahmad, a local resident working in the bus stand Shopian said that lack of basic facilities is causing inconvenience to daily commuters especially women and children who find it challenging to manage without proper sanitation and shelter during weather conditions.
He said that in the extreme weather conditions like current heat wave passengers have been suffering in absence of the passenger shed.
Mariya Akhter a local woman carrying her baby in her lap said that she needs water for the baby but there is no water available in the stand.
She also complained about lack of washroom facilities at the shed.
Passengers waiting for their vehicles plying on different routes said that they have raised these issues with concerned authorities several times but nothing has been done so far.
They said that construction of a fountain was started at the stand but that too was left midway and it is full of dirt currently.
They requested concerned authorities to take up this issue seriously so that passengers won’t suffer further.
They have sought the attention of Deputy Commissioner Shopian and municipal authorities in this regard—(KNO)
