Former High Court Bar President Mian Qayoom Arrested in Babar Qadri Murder Case

Srinagar, June 25 : Former J&K High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) president Mian Qayoom has been arrested in connection with the murder case of Kashmiri lawyer Babar Qadri, officials said.

They told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that a team of SIA of Jammu and Kashmir police today formally arrested the former BAR President Mian Qayoom in case FIR no 62 of 2020 pertaining to the killing of Advocate Babar Qadri. This case is being investigated by the a team top officers of SIA.

He is being questioned and further investigations in the case are going on, the officials said.

Qayoom is the father-in-law of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court judge Javed Iqbal Wani.

Adv Babar Qadri S/O Sh. Mohd Yasin Qadri R/O Zahidpora, Hawal, Srinagar was killed by terrorists on 24.09.2020 at his residence by two people who came as clients to his Srinagar house.

In August 2021, a special team set up by the state police filed charges against five suspects. When security forces killed Abbas Shiekh, chief commander of The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow front of LeT, and his deputy Saqib Manzoor, in September, the Kashmir Police said that Saqib Manzoor was also involved in Qadri’s murder.

A Case FIR No 62/2020 U/S 302 IPC 7/27 IAA 13/16/18/20/39 UA PA was registered at P/S Lalbazar Srinagar later on the case was transferred to SIA for further investigation.

In September last year, the SIA announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for information about Qadri’s killers.(KDC)
