Srinagar, May 11 2024: As the electoral fervor peaks in the 02-Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, the District Magistrate (Deputy Commissioner) of Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, has taken proactive measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the democratic process. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have been promulgated throughout the district, marking the end of the campaigning period and the commencement of the silence period.

Effective from 6:00 pm on May 11, 2024 (Saturday) until 6:00 pm on May 13, 2024 (Monday), these restrictions aim to uphold the sanctity of democratic principles and maintain law and order during the polling period.

Under the purview of Section 144 CrPC, any form of unlawful assembly is strictly prohibited, and all processions or rallies are banned to forestall any potential law and order disruptions. Additionally, individuals are barred from convening, participating in, or addressing public meetings or processions pertaining to the elections.

This directive underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process in the district. With these measures in place, authorities are poised to facilitate the conduct of polls in a conducive environment, upholding the essence of democracy.

These instructions will remain enforced from 6:00 pm on May 11 (Saturday) until 6:00 pm on May 13, 2024 (Monday) within the jurisdiction of the Srinagar district. As the countdown to polling day begins, the district administration urges all stakeholders to adhere to these regulations in the interest of maintaining harmony and orderliness during this electoral phase.
